The Better Business Cases™ Foundation qualification will help anyone involved in business case development understand and apply the core concepts and approaches. The Better Business Cases framework is a flexible and scalable approach to options appraisal, helping organisations make robust, well-evidenced investment decisions.

For those working in the UK public sector, the BBC framework is increasingly required as part of the investment approval process and the course is aimed at roles such as Programme Director and Project Manager. Upon completion of the BBC Foundation, you will be able to develop a business case using the Five Case Model, and you will be eligible to study the BBC Practitioner.

The Better Business Cases™ Foundation will cover a range of topics, including:

  • Overview of the Five Case Model – Understand the components and stages of a business case.
  • Developing the Strategic Case – Learn how to develop a Strategic Case, including the steps and the responsibilities involved.
  • Developing the Economic Case – Understand how to develop an Economic Case, including critical success factors, purpose, and objectives.
  • Developing the Commercial Case – Understand the process of developing a Commercial Case, from guiding principles to payment mechanisms.
  • Developing the Financial Case – Learn about developing a Financial Case, including the financial statements required for all projects and possible impacts to consider.
  • Developing the Management Case – Learn about developing a Management Case, including planning for successful delivery and managing risks and benefits.

To gain the full Better Business Cases Foundation qualification you must complete one examination.

The assessment consists of 50 multiple-choice questions, to be answered in a time frame of 40 minutes and is to be taken online. The pass mark is 50%.

The BBC Foundation can be studied in two different ways: Virtual Classes and Face to Face Classes.

Virtual Classes run over 2 days, live online from 9am – 4.30pm. These classes enable you to engage with our expert trainers and fellow classmates in real-time.

Face to Face Classes run over 2 days from 9am – 4.30pm. These in-person, interactive classes, take place across our wide range of UK study venues.

There are no formal entry requirements for undertaking this qualification. However, the Better Business Cases™ Foundation is aimed at anyone involved with, or overseeing, a project, such as Senior Responsible Owners (SROs), Programme Directors and Project Team Members.
