Project management training is one of the most effective ways for professionals to build confidence, sharpen their decision-making and contribute more effectively to their organisation. In this blog, we explore how Catrin Evans used our project management training to strengthen her skills, deepen their impact and create new opportunities for growth.

What inspired you to begin your project management training journey?

I attended the APM Women in Project Management conference where I met several inspiring colleagues. During the event, I stopped by the Exhibitors area, where I met Dave Charlton and the team from Oxford College of Management. By the following week, I was booked on to attend the AgilePM Foundation and Practitioner courses.

You’ve completed several project management qualifications with us – what influenced your decision to keep progressing through each level/course?

Continuing to motivate and challenge myself is vital. I set myself high targets which I always strive to meet. Applying the learning to my role is incredibly rewarding.  It provides opportunity to add value to projects in global health, data for science and health. Throughout the project lifecycle, there is opportunity to collaborate with colleagues and contribute positively to my organisation’s mission.

Which study methods have you used for your project management qualifications, and how did they work for you?

I’ve drawn on a combination of mechanisms to support my study. This has included Oxford College of Management’s online learning platform, through to revision cards, simulation questions, books, and engaging with audio materials. Everyone has their own unique learning style, and I’d encourage you to reflect on what works best for you.

How would you describe your overall learning experience with Oxford College of Management?

It has been excellent. I’ve really enjoyed the learning and collaboration with so many inspiring students along the journey.

Across all your project management studies, what key skills or knowledge have you gained that you now use in your role?

I’ve gained a range of skills which are directly applicable to my work. These have included risk and issue management, planning, and quality. I’ve gained insights into the governance and strategic direction of projects and their strategic alignment with the organisation’s direction of travel.

How have your qualifications collectively impacted your career, both in the short term and long term?

The qualifications have provided me with an opportunity to further my learning and apply this to each and every project I’m  connected with. I have stretched myself and this is reflected in the scale of ambition and collaboration.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about doing a project management qualification?

Take the first step and reach out to the team to have a brief conversation. This will give you a flavour of what’s involved. Know your learning style and draw on your strengths.

Would you recommend studying project management with Oxford College of Management? If so, why?

You’ve been so supportive in going the extra mile to ensure everything I need is in place. The courses themselves have always been a safe and supportive learning environment which I’ve valued. Thank you.
