What’s Involved

With the CMI Level 7 in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice, you can choose to qualify in an Award, Certificate or Diploma.

Each qualification depends on the number of units you study and complete, alongside the Total Qualification Time (TQT) – the minimum number of acceptable and expected study hours in order to successfully complete the unit.

For the CMI Level 7 Award, you must complete at least 1 unit worth 7 credits, selected from units 701-706 below and study to a minimum of 70 TQT hours.

For the CMI Level 7 Certificate, you must complete at least two units (from 701-706 below), worth 14 credits and study to a minimum of 140 TQT hours.

For the CMI Level 7 Diploma, you must complete any combination of units, typically around 4-5, (from 701-706 below) worth 37 credits and study to a minimum of 370 TQT hours.

Unit 701 – Strategic Leadership

This unit focuses on the role of the strategic leader and the context for strategic leadership. It also explores the required behaviours and skills to deliver strategic goals, and how the principles of strategic leadership can be applied to organisational change.

Unit 702 – Leading and Developing People to Optimise Performance

In this unit, you will develop a solid understanding of effective leadership and people development. You will look at leadership theories, culture, wellbeing, policy and strategy, culminating in a strategy that values people and optimises organisational performance.

Unit 704 – Developing Organisational Strategy

This unit begins by exploring the factors that drive organisational strategy development, and appraising the approaches to successfully developing the strategy. This unit culminates with you developing your own organisational strategy to achieve a business goal.

Unit 705 – Leading Strategic Change

The aim of this unit is to understand the scope, context and complexity of leading strategic change, by applying analytical techniques, theories and models of change. The unit concludes with the opportunity to develop a proposal to lead strategic change.

Unit 706 – Finance for Strategic Leaders

Become more confident in the Finance function, by learning the complexity and role of Finance within an organisational context, which includes critically assessing methods for analysing financial data and acquiring information to make strategic decisions.

To gain the CMI Level 7 Award, Certificate or Diploma, you will need to complete written assignments.

You are assigned a personal assignment tutor and can submit draft assignments for feedback. You then have the option to make two additional submissions before your final work is sent to the Chartered Institute of Management for formal moderation.

Each unit is graded on a pass or fail basis.
