Michael Warren is a professionally qualified project manager with over 20 years experience in the manufacturing, nuclear, offshore and defence sectors. Michael has managed a variety of large change projects. In these roles he was responsible for delivering cradle to grave solutions to major UK and international clients within demanding time, cost and performance parameters. These projects included the delivery of a robotic nuclear waste handling system to the Sellafield facility in Cumbria, a novel tension leg offshore platform connection system for Exxon and a subsea electro-hydraulic jumper system for BP (for which he the named inventor on a patent). He was also responsible for delivering bespoke engineering solutions to British Gas, Mobile and Elf.

He was also responsible for introducing formal project management frameworks into a number of organisations including the Caravan Club, Slough Borough Council and North Devon District Council. Michael introduced formal risk management into a large engineering company that was part of the Weir Group and acted as a risk manager.

In his role as senior consultant at Logica UK, Michael was a key member of a joint venture team that designed and delivered a wide range of training solutions to the Defence Procurement Agency (part of the UK Ministry of Defence).

Michael has also worked as a technical director responsible for design and delivery of a portfolio of training and consultancy services to major clients. In this role, he has also supported the Association for Project Management as lead question writer for their risk and Project Management Qualification’s (PMQ).

Outside of work, Michael enjoys playing guitar and watching his grandchildren grow up.

Attended the APM PFQ 2 day face to face course with Oxford College of Management in London in May 2026. Very positive experience from start to finish: They organised a Teams call to help me understand more about the different types of project management courses, and responded very quickly to all follow up emails. The location was very central - right next to a London Bridge underground exit. The course was great - the trainer Terry balanced explanation and discussion really well, shared examples to help information stick, and made everyone feel comfortable to ask questions and add comments. We all went away feeling confident about the exam. The online material is also excellent - written presentations, verbal recordings, podcasts and several test questions - enabling participants to deepen their understanding following the 2 day course using their preferred methods. The exam itself is conducted at home under strict exam conditions which concerned me at first, but the APM information and instructions were brilliant - if you follow them you will be fine, just read them as soon as possible and allow plenty of time to get set-up.

I recently attended the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) course over three days. The course was well-structured, covering a lot of valuable content while remaining engaging throughout. Our tutor was excellent—knowledgeable, approachable, and interactive. They kept the sessions engaging by encouraging discussions, answering questions, and making sure everyone understood the key concepts. Three days felt like the right length—intensive but manageable. There was a lot to learn, but the pacing was effective. The interactive teaching approach and well-structured content made it a valuable and enjoyable learning experience!
